Feb. 18, 2007 Because the Lent is to begin on Clean Monday, which is tomorrow, there has to be a mundane celebration today. In Kalyves it is a big carnival that gathers people from all the surrounding villages, and from Hania. The main street is very loud with amplified music, and totally packed with celebrating people. The tavernas are full, and it's one big party... ...that was announced many days before with these coming up here and there in the village. Getting into the mood of celebrating takes a bit of this... ...and a bit of this, too. These do no harm either! In a carnival the relevant question is: Who is the prettiest of them all? Is it me... ...or the elevated beauty queen? The floats from the villages are starting to arrive... ...with themes of their own... ...that give ways to youngsters to express their truly carnivalistic emotions as the floats pass by! One of the interesting floats. It depicts the recent bank-robbery incident in Kalyves that highly resembles the activities of the "Dalton Brothers" in Finland! Individuals are also invited to make an appearence. But perhaps this float is highly expressive? After a while everything is starting to look like this... ...and a bit later like this... ...until there is this to be seen! A great carnival before the Lent!
