On the Ferry from Rostock to Helsinki via Gdynia - Saturday. May 5 to Monday, May 7, 2012

The last stretch on the way back home. Finally!

The interesting Rostock greeted the departing ferry, Finnlady (!), with a nice weather.

The following morning the ferry stopped shortly in Gdynia - in the rain. Perhaps it was benevolent to the ugly views of that harbour :)

Of the three boat trips (Souda-Pireus, Patras-Venice, Rostock-Helsinki) this last one was probably the most interesting socially. I met many interesting people and had nice converstions with them.

There were these two truck drivers, one from England and the other from Germany, who had travelled in business all around in Europe, in North Africa, and even in South America and China. We had our very frequent meetings in the smoking area, which we started to call our headquarters!

I also remember warmly the two younger Finnish guys who had been in Hamburg to buy new motor cycles - and who liked the onboard SAUNA (!) almost as much as I. During the voyage I managed to go to sauna three times - beating those guys 3 - 2 ! Having sauna really made me feel that I'm approaching Finland!

And I enjoyed also the company of these people: A young Finnish lady, an English teacher, who had been travelling around for two years and was now returning home with two "aquisitions" - a 7 month old baby and a husband; a Polish construction company owner who was heading for Finland to finish up a renovation project in a house in Espoo (only some kms from where I live); a Finnish couple returning after spending the wintery months in Spain...

The last evening on the boat showed a nice change in weather, meaning that I would be arriving next morning in Helsinki in sunshine! And meet KITI & MILLI in our own home!
