A hill is a pleasant and interesting place. If you climb on it, you see further. And this royal hillwine has a very special meaning for me. It's like an old, good and true friend you thought you had forgotten, but found again. So, through my clear hill-fumes I see Ari, three Heikkis, Ritva, Tuovi, Erja - and Kiti. We said 'Cheers' on a hill of well-being, and we should have had Koonunga Hill colouring our glasses.
Quality that goes on evenly through the years, and sophisticated oak. That's the secret of this Penfolds king revealing always more wisdom than years. We got friendly with each other about a decade ago. And I can still remember a horrible year: Koonunga wasn't available.
A dark wine giving enjoyment, and peace, to your widened nostrils. Wide body, strong - and a lesson in oak beautifully built into the structure of the wine. A wine with roots that stay. They stay like friends in my soft-focus, from three decades ago. Ari, three Heikkis, Ritva, Tuovi, Erja - and Kiti! - Next time (soon) our glasses are red with Koonunga Hill.
